Sports evening
Our Monday evening sports group began as an opportunity for the adults of the church to play badminton - hence it was known at the "Over-25's Sport" and was soon nicknamed (by the participants) as "Crumblies".
However, some of the younger members of the church wanted to join in, so the age restriction was gladly removed. Youths are welcome to come along and try pitting their energy against the adults' skill (if "skill" is the right word?)! The evening is all about enjoying exercise.
We currently play badminton (for physical exercise) and a couple of people play chess (the mental exercise!). Other games aren't ruled out and table tennis and board games are sometimes played.
It all takes place on a Monday evening, starting at 7.00pm with a refreshment break in the middle for those who like to take time out for a chat instead of running around the court all night. We finish around 9 pm.
Although our hall is large enough to fit a badminton court, it is not without it's challenges. The court runs right up to the walls and the hall has some low beams. This gives rise to a set of local rules, (i.e. hitting the inner beam is counted as a "let", but hitting the outer beam is "out"). This will be explained to you if you come along. The standard of play varies, and we aim to have fun, improve our badminton and take the game seriously - or not, depending what mood we're in!
You are welcome to join us!
