All Rounders
At Riverside, we set great store on our work with youth and children, but that does not mean that we forget the older members of our fellowship. From September 2008 a group is being formed, called "All Rounders." This is a new development for the group which used to be called The Guild.
Where we came from
The Guild (formerly called The Women's Guild until they added a few men to their number!) were a fairly traditional midweek meeting for retired women. their meetings took place over a shared lunch, and included a devotional time led by the members and often an invited speaker. As is the way in so many of these groups, membership fell, and it became harder and harder to find new speakers, especially those that were close enough not to need large travelling expenses, which were always met out of the Guild's own funds, which in turn were raised by personal subscription. These circumstances came together to make the group in its old format unviable.
What now?
After spending time in discussions and prayer a new vision for the group has been determined, and with it, a new name! From September 2008, All Rounders will start to meet, initially once a month. There will not be any formal membership to the group, and anyone is welcome to attend, although the group is primarily aimed at Senior Citizens.
The meetings will begin with lunch in The Source Cafe, providing a relaxed and informal setting for an inexpensive light lunch. this will be followed by a traditional "Songs of Praise"-style worship time, with traditional hymns, readings, and a short address. Anyone who appreciate this form of spirituality is both welcome and encouraged to attend - you do not need to be a Riverside regular.
Please use the contact page to enquire when the next meeting is, or look at the weekly notice sheet in church.
