At Riverside, we set great store on our work with youth and children, but that does not mean that we forget the older members of our fellowship, which is where All Rounders comes in.
Where we came from
The Guild (formerly called The Women's Guild until they added a few men to their number!) were a fairly traditional midweek meeting for retired women. Their meetings took place over a shared lunch, and included a devotional time led by the members and often an invited speaker. As is the way in so many of these groups, membership fell, and it became harder and harder to find new speakers, especially those that were close enough not to need large travelling expenses, which were always met out of the Guild's own funds, which in turn were raised by personal subscription. These circumstances came together to make the group in its old format unviable.
After spending time in discussions and prayer a new vision for the group has been determined, and with it, a new name! All Rounders meet fortnightly in the church. There will not be any formal membership to the group, and anyone is welcome to attend, although the group is primarily aimed at Senior Citizens.
Some of the All Rounders members like to begin with lunch in The Source Cafe, providing a relaxed and informal setting for an inexpensive light lunch. Others like to have lunch at home before coming to All Rounders. The meeting usually begins with a short act of worship, usually with traditional hymns, readings, and a short address. Anyone who appreciates this form of spirituality is both welcome and encouraged to attend - you do not need to be a Riverside regular.
